Donations usually decline this time of year, with folks busy shopping or at holiday gatherings; and the addition of cold and flu season isn’t much help.
That’s why area blood banks are asking people to stop in and give now, before things get too hectic.
“We are trying to maintain our usual amount, we typically need 600 units of blood per day for the hospitals and with our usual donors being busy with the holiday we rely on the community to give the gift of life,” said Katie Freeman, Manager of Donor Recruitment at Heartland Blood Centers.
The whole process usually takes about an hour, with the blood donation itself only taking 10 minutes.
