Governor Pat Quinn recently signed a bill prohibiting Illinois police departments from assigning ticket quotas to law enforcement officers.
Police departments can no longer require officers to issue a certain number of citations in a set time period, nor can the number of citations issued by an officer be used in job performance evaluations.
The goal of the bill is to restore trust between the police and the community and to allow police to use their own judgment when issuing citations.
The law took effect immediately and applies to local, county, and state police department.
