Tick Season in Naperville

This time of year marks the beginning of tick season.

The small bugs, which are typically found in wooded or brushy areas, can latch onto a passerby and burrow into the skin, transferring the bacteria, which causes Lyme disease.

Experts say wearing the right clothing can help reduce the risk of a bite.

“Wearing long sleeves as much as possible, long pants, socks, those are always precautions but for sure when you get off the trails, check yourself out,” said Chuck Maher, Commissioner for the Forest Preserve District of Will County.

Walking in the center of a trail and avoiding high brush areas can also help reduce contact with the bug.

Telltale signs of a bite include a rash along with fever, headache and fatigue.
