Naperville Republican Robert Schillerstrom recently announced he’s formed an exploratory committee in hopes of running for Illinois Treasurer.
Schillerstrom spent 12 years as the DuPage County Board Chairman and ran for Governor in 2010.
He attributes the county’s financial success under his tenure as a good reason to run and thinks he can help Illinois get back on a positive path.
“Taking that fiscal expertise to Springfield and basically saying there’s a different way of doing it than the way you’ve been doing it,” he said. “I think it will be helpful to try and solve some of the problems in the state.”
Current Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford has announced he will run for governor in 2014, leaving a vacancy in the position.
