From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on March 23rd, the city acted on a dare to help save the planet.
The city participated in Earth Hour by switching off the Christmas lights downtown.
The World Wildlife Fund whose motto is “dare the world to save the planet” sponsors the global movement.
Millions of people around the world including Naperville residents, businesses, and city officials switched off non-essential lights for one designated hour.
The city’s electrical system experienced a reduction in power usage of 5.8 percent compared to that same time last Saturday.
Last year, Earth Hour took place in more than 7,000 cities and towns in 152 countries across the world.
