Families affected by autism spectrum disorder recently had the chance to learn more from a medical expert.
Residents attended “The Changing Face of Autism” at North Central College.
The presentation was hosted by Little Friends Center for Autism, a private non-profit organization serving children and adults with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities in the area.
Dr. Cynthia Brouillard gave the audience an overview of the diagnostic changes that will take effect in may of this year.
“We used to think that if you have autism, you will always have autism and we know now that kids can get dramatically better so that’s exciting,” said Dr. Brouillard.
Naperville’s support groups for those with ASD and other developmental disabilities include Little Friends, Autism Speaks, and Turning Pointe Autism Foundation.
