After the success of their ‘Don’t Be An Accidental Drug Dealer’ campaign, ParentsMatterToo, a KidsMatter initiative, released a video series titled ‘Prescription Painkillers: The Accidental Road To Addiction.’
“We hope that these videos are disseminated throughout our community, that they are shared, so they cause conversation, so that our young people can better understand the dangers of prescription drugs and see how they are a pathway to addiction. And help our parents understand how crucial their role is in educating and in parenting and in becoming aware themselves,” said IdaLynn Wenhold, Executive Director of KidsMatter.
The four part series features public officials, health experts and former addicts, all discussing how prescription drug abuse often leads to stronger drugs like heroin, and what parents can do to help their kids avoid addiction.
“The videos were real, they’re not candy coating things. Letting people know we have an epidemic going on here. There’s no one to blame, people always wants to blame pharma, the families, the schools, everyone else. We need to come together as a community here to tackle this epidemic,” said Tim Ryan, Founder and Executive Director of A Man In Recovery Foundation.
At a special screening of the videos, attendees were able to hear from those featured and ask questions from experts in the addiction field.
All of the videos can be found at ParentsMatterToo.org.
