At the last meeting before their first day of class, District 204 proposed their budget.
Despite not receiving their fourth categorical payment from the state yet to help wrap up their 2015-2016 fiscal year, the board was presented with a tentative budget for 2016-2017.
“I contacted the Illinois State Board of Education to get a sense of what they are doing and they don’t expect us to see that categorical payment until September. And if that check doesn’t come before August 31st we can’t apply it, and that would impact whether or not we deficit spend so we are paying attention to that,” said Chief School Business Officer, Jay Strang.
Under the tentative budget, the state will provide more than $47,000,000 with the total fiscal year 2017 budget calling for $322,672,963 with expenditures running $322,105,774. The budget is currently posted on the district’s website and taxpayers are encouraged to take a look and provide feedback before the final budget approval.
The District 204 school board will vote on the final budget at their September 26th meeting.
