Homeless youth appears to be on the rise.
According to the National Runaway Safeline, the number of kids and teens contacting the hotline on a regular basis has increased steadily over the past three years.
The not-for-profit 360 Youth Services can attest to this trend.
Members say more and more teenagers are calling for assistance but they’ve had to turn many away because their shelters are already at capacity.
Last year, more than 20,000 people ages 21 or younger in Illinois called the National Runaway Safeline, that’s up 28% from 2009.
