The owner of one popular downtown bar and grill is taking over another establishment that’s gained notoriety over the past few years.
Jim Bergeron, owner of Jimmy’s Grill, is in the process of taking ownership and operation of Blackfinn American Saloon and plans to rename the place.
He doesn’t want to remodel but says he will change management, and make better use of the kitchen, as Blackfinn currently generates 30% of its sales in food, versus jimmy’s which does 60% in food sales.
Bergeron already owns the site, and as landlord, he had already taken measures to help Blackfinn move forward in a better direction following a series of violent acts, including the stabbing of a security guard in march 2011, and a recent fight where six people including a Justice, Illinois police officer were arrested. Back in November, the bar served a three-day suspension after admitting four liquor violations.
As a result, Blackfinn now has security cameras installed and uses electronic ID checkers.
Bergeron plans to take ownership of the establishment if the city council approves of a late-night liquor permit for him. The issue will be discussed at the may 21st council meeting.
