Another way to give to others has become synonymous with ringing in the holidays, the Salvation Army donation kettles, but, one recent donor gave more than just spare change.
On December 6, a one-ounce gold South African kruggerand was dropped into the red kettle at Casey’s Foods at Washington Street and Gartner Road. The coin is valued at about $1,300.
The Salvation Army is reporting $3.3 million in donations so far this season about 26% of their $13 million goal.
This contribution came at a good time donations are down about 8% compared to this time last year, because of the shorter holiday season.
Casey’s also had a kruggerand donation last year.
