Summer Wine Guide

If the dog days of summer have got you down, there are a few trending drinks that can cool you off while you sip!

“For the summer it’s definitely going to be sangrias, it’s going to be lighter, easier to drink, slightly sweet, really refreshing especially on a hot summer day,” said Kim Render, Wine Consultant at Peterson Spirits & Fine Wines.

If you’d rather leave the work to the experts, Peterson’s recommends two pre-made sangrias that are sure to please anyone’s palates.

“My personal favorite is the Lolea Sangria, now we have two different types: the white one is mainly peach forward, so peach lovers or apricot lovers, you’re going to love this. The other one is strawberry and a little raspberry flavors going on with it, I absolutely love it. Also the bottles are adorable so you can reuse them,” said Render.

But oftentimes summer drinks are on the go, boxed drinks are an easy option for wine lovers.

“Beso de Vino, it comes from Spain this is an Old Vine Garnacha, you can open it at the spout, and once you open it, it will last for four weeks because it’s vacuum sealed and you don’t have to be rushed to drink it considering it’s four bottles of wine,” said Render.

If you’re a fan of something lighter, try a rosé, a wine that’s made by only allowing the skin of the grape to come in contact with the juice for a short period of time, creating a pink color and light flavor.

Render recommends a French blend from Louis Laurent.

“Rosés are becoming more and more popular in America. They’ve always been popular in Europe, but now we’re getting a lot of new French rosés and Italian rosés coming to America, and Americans are just loving them, they’re a little bit more crisp, drier, and balanced,” said Render.

And one final tip for your summer sips, try putting your wine glass in the fridge before you pour to cool down your drink since ice cubes can dilute the flavor of some drinks.
