Summer School Changes

At the latest 203 Board of Education meeting, administrators presented plans to update courses and fees for the 2016 summer school program.

In addition to a new $25 fee for summer school students who elect to use District transportation, there will also be an increase in the cost of each course.

“Last year the Board approved an incremental tuition increase, which will continue for the 2016 school year. This increase will continue to keep summer school reasonably priced for our community, as we will present, will provide as it was designed to do, the revenue to cover the expenses directly related to teaching and learning in summer school classrooms,” said Kevin Wojtkiewicz, Director of Summer Learning for 203.

For students from 203, the increase per class ranges from $10 to $20 depending on the course.

New classes will be offered at the high school and junior high levels, and all grades will have the option of taking part in six-weeks of summer learning to help avoid the summer slide

The District expects a deficit of more than $120,000 for the upcoming summer school session, even though they anticipate an increased enrollment.
