Summer Movies Preview 2018

Get your popcorn and fill your soda because this summer is overflowing with movies.

Punching its way into theaters now is a comic book film – “Deadpool 2.”

“Ryan Reynolds returns for a second time as the foul-mouthed merc superhero, with great special effects and profanity spewing out on the big screen,” said Mark Mazrimas, the marketing manager at Classic Cinemas.

And there’s plenty more superhero sequels to come, from “Ant Man and Wasp” to “Incredibles 2.”

“We have writer/director Brad Bird returning from the original,” said Mazrimas. “We also have the voice talents of Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter along with Samuel L. Jackson as my favorite character Frozone.”

Other family-friendly films to round out the season will be “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” and “Christopher Robin.”

And one of children’s TV’s greatest icons, Mr. Rogers, will be the focus of the documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”

“It’s going to tell us a lot of things that we don’t know about him and I think this might, in the summer blockbusters, Mr. Rogers might be the little surprise people will go to see,” added Mazrimas.

You’ll see a lot of female leads taking their talents to the theater this summer with “Mama Mia: Here We Go Again” staring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, and Cher.

And an all-star female cast will take over the “Oceans” franchise with “Oceans 8” on appropriately June 8.

“We will find out if it only takes 8 women to do the job of 11 men,” said Mazrimas.

Another ocean-based film storming to the big screen in June is “Adrift,” based on a true story and staring Shailene Woodley.

“They’re taking this small craft ship for somebody and they hit on one of the biggest, catastrophic storms that ever hit the Pacific in its history,” explained Mazrimas.

And it wouldn’t be summer without a jaw-dropping shark movie.

“So we have ‘The Meg’ and we have Jason Statham battling this 75-foot prehistoric dinosaur shark that is called the Megaledon,” he added.

More dinosaurs can be expected in “Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom.”

Mid summer expect more death-defying stunts from Tom Cruise in “Mission Impossible: The Fallout” and Dwayne ‘”The Rock” Johnson in “Skyscraper.”

Also jumping into theaters with the laughs will be “Tag,” and the romantic comedy, “Crazy Rich Asians.”

Classic Cinemas’ Ogden 6 is once again hosting Wednesday Morning Movies this summer. Starting June 6 you can enjoy a family film every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. for just $1.

Tons of films sure to make a blast this summer.
