North Central College wants their students to “Please Go Away.” That’s the motto for their Study Abroad Program. The school recently hosted a fair connecting students with international programs and other Study Abroad students.
“[North Central has] 122 students abroad this academic year,” said Kimberly Larsson, the Assistant Director of International Programs for North Central. “[The students] are abroad in 34 different programs in 18 different countries. I think we are just starting to get it into the campus culture.”
Students can enroll on their own in one of the college’s partner schools or study in a group of approximately ten students from North Central.
While abroad, students are able to learn valuable lessons including adaptability, flexibility, and independence.
“I was expecting to learn more about Spain and Spanish culture, but I learned a lot about myself, ” said Deanne Lavrack, a senior Study Abroad student at North Central. “Now I’m more independent. All the qualities I gained while being abroad can help me now, and in the future.”
In the future, the college hopes to expand programs in the Middle East and Africa.
