Stricter Restrictions Statewide: Mayor’s Update

An update from Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico regarding the stricter restrictions statewide on indoor dining:

Hi, I’m Mayor Steve Chirico.

As you may know, the state is imposing stricter regulations on dining and gatherings in Naperville’s two health regions beginning Friday.  Like many of you, I am discouraged to hear that our area has slipped backward in the fight against COVID-19.  After a few months of lower community transmission, no one wants to see cases increase.  While this news is disappointing, the bright side is that we can change this trajectory.  We can pull together as a community to bend the curve once again – and get back to business – as quickly as possible.  We have the power to help keep this virus in check through positive behaviors and taking control of our actions.

To protect our lives and livelihoods, I’m urging all of you to follow the 3Ws:

    • Wear a mask
    • Watch your distance
    • Wash your hands.

Also stay home if you are sick and be sure to take care of yourselves and your families – physically and mentally.  Following these public health guidelines can help us take a balanced approach to living during this pandemic.  This way, we can support our local businesses, our health care facilities and our neighbors who work for them.

As a City, we will continue to keep an eye on local and regional data and look for ways to assist our residents and businesses – especially our restaurant and bars.  We’ll also continue conversations with state and local health officials to ensure the data supports the mitigations being put in place, but especially now, as indoor dining once again comes to a halt and gatherings are limited to 25 people, it is up to each and every one of us to do our part to help decrease the spread of COVID-19.  Together, I trust we can and will reverse this trajectory and keep ourselves – and others – healthy and safe.

Thank you, Naperville, and stay safe.
