Not many people can say they’ve met their favorite athlete. Lisle Resident Chris Rogers can. He met Saints Quarterback Drew Brees on the Oprah show after being selected as one of the biggest fans in the area. It topped off a month he’ll never forget.
Born and raised in New Orleans, he traveled to the NFC Championship game.
“Five seconds after [Garrett] Hartley hit that field goal [to win it] my uncle turned to me and said I have a Super Bowl ticket with your name on it in my safe at home. It was just a lot to take it in at that time,” said Rogers.
Super Bowl ticket in hand, he headed to Miami with friends and family. With a late interception New Orleans sealed its championship a victory for the team and a triumph for the city.
“They needed something to believe in, some sort of hope, football giving hope it really worked that way,” said Rogers.
As for his two little Saints at home, they’re too young to understand the meaning, but his 3-year old son Ian has already chosen the same favorite player as his dad.
“I don’t really know where to go from here. I’m still up in the clouds,” said Rogers.
