Last year’s Edward Hospital Naperville Half Marathon winner will return to defend his title.
Jeff Purdom crossed the finish line last year with a time of 74 minutes and 14 seconds. His goal then was to just run at a comfortable pace, so the fact that he ended up the first place winner was a nice bonus.
This year, he will try and uphold his title, coming in more prepared and ready to take on the competition.
“We’ll see who shows up race day. I think that I’m in better shape than I was last year,” said Purdom. “I ran the Fox Valley Half Marathon a couple weeks ago now, so I know my fitness is there. I just continue to get stronger and try to now, in the weeks leading up to it, run some more half marathon specific stuff. If I can run about a minute or so faster than last year I’ll be pretty pleased with that.”
Purdom was going to test his limits by running the full marathon this year but with family, teaching, and coaching on his plate, he felt he’d be unprepared.
The 2014 Edward Hospital Naperville Marathon is sold out but still has some charity slots available.
