The celebration for Evan Lysacek’s gold medal continued into the late afternoon on Evan Lysacek Day. Before hundreds of enthusiastic fans at the Carillon, Mayor George Pradel gave Evan a key to the city.
Second grader Abby DeMare stayed up past her bedtime to watch Evan’s gold medal-winning skate.
“A lot of our families stayed up for a long time. And I made my mom let me stay up late so I could see Evan,” she said.
Evan and his Dancing with the Stars partner Anna Trebenskya previewed one of their upcoming routines for the hit television show.
“We just love Dancing with Stars. We’re happy that we have a Naperville representative on the show and hopefully he can go all the way,” said fan Dan Caras.
Cara’s wife, Georgjean, agreed.
“I think he will,” she said.
Once again, Lysacek took the opportunity to thank his fans for supporting him before he made it big.
“Not every day is easy, so even on the hard days, to get a letter or see a familiar face at one of my shows when I’m performing really does make a difference and brighten up my life,” Lysacek said.
Finally, Evan’s father Don took the podium.
“Thanks so much for embracing my son with such enthusiasm and such love and affection. It truly shows that Naperville is still a little big town,” Don Lysacek said.
