It was a hero welcome for one Plainfield soldier returning home from Afghanistan. Private First Class Alex Pavia, a purple heart recipient, was honored with a surprise motorcade from Operation Welcome You Home.
“I was a little nervous when I saw everyone,” said Alex. “I am good now.”
This was a special homecoming for the soldier that was injured while serving 11 months in Afghanistan. His father, a purple heart recipient as well, was welcomed home along side him almost 40 years after arriving home from Vietnam.
“Having my son home and the veterans like that, it’s an honor,” said father Pete Pavia.
The whole community came out to shoe their support for this military family, and Alex had his biggest inspiration at his side.
“It’s because of him I joined the army and I learned a lot about myself,” said Alex. “I have more respect for the little things in life.”
It is the little things, like celebrating this moment with friends and relatives, that made the homecoming so memorable for the Pavia family.
“Words can’t describe it,” said Alex’s mother Rose. “I’m just in awe over how many people are so willing to give their time for my son and my husband. It just means the world to me.”
The Pavia family says the greatest welcome home gift is the new addition to family. Alex and his fiance are expecting their first child in November.
