Thousands of people came together to enjoy food and friendship at the fourth annual Soup’s On! event hosted by the Rotary Club of Naperville. Each year more than 25 restaurants and merchants dish out food for a fundraiser benefitting DuPage PADS, Hesed House, and Loaves & Fishes.
“It’s a signature event of the Rotary Club of Naperville,” said Pat Merryweather-Arges, District Governor Elect of Rotary International.
“It really is an event that engages the entire community.”
As attendees entered the Tellabs Atrium, they were handed a ceramic soup mug and a cookbook. Then they walked around and got to choose which vendors they wanted to try.
“It’s nice to give back to charity but also to enjoy all the different vendors and food and just enjoy with my friends and family,” said Allison Guiffre, a Naperville resident.
The idea behind Soup’s On! was to have a fundraiser resembling a food kitchen where vendors serve soup to attendees. The event grew and now there’s all kinds of food available to taste and enjoy.
There was also a silent auction, a children’s activity area, and entertainment by performance groups at the local high schools.
In addition to the many who came out to eat and enjoy themselves, more than 200 local residents volunteered to work the event.
“We have so many people who volunteer for this event that we actually, unfortunately, have to turn volunteers away,” said Merryweather-Arges
And those volunteers take the Rotary Club’s slogan “Service Above Self” to heart.
