Site Selected

North Central College has selected the site for their new science center.

The board of trustees announced the corner of Brainard St. and Van Buren Ave. as the location for the school’s new 125,000-foot facility, expected to open in 2017.

North central’s president, Dr. Troy Hammond, has a Ph.D. in atomic physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and says the new center is critical in advancing the quality of education provided by the college.

“[We have] a rich tradition of preparing students to become great leaders in the sciences,” said Hammond. “Our new facility will ensure the continuation of that legacy for generations to come.”

The new $60 million center will replace the current Kroehler Science Center constructed in 1970 when the enrollment was one-third its current size.

The college is now focusing on fundraising for the project.
