Buying a new necklace, scarf, or purse in Naperville can now help women in need thanks to Women At Risk International. Visitors to the new W.A.R. Chest Boutique store in downtown Naperville can do more than just by elegant jewelry or hand made ornaments. When you stop at this store, you are helping raise money to support victims of human trafficking in America and around the world.
“I think that a lot of Americans are completely blind to the fact that there is trafficking that goes on in America,” said Stacey Eastway, Store Manager of the Naperville Location. “I think that we are just sheltered, and we think our bubble is completely safe.”
The United Nations estimate that human trafficking is a 7 billion dollar a year global business. Many Americans don’t realize more than 300,000 women and children in the U.S. are at risk each year of being trafficked, according to the U.S. Department of State.
Joining a growing list of businesses, like Tom’s Shoes, who link a social cause with selling a product, the store donates profits to help rescue and educate women and children who have been or are at risk of being trafficked. The entire product line is made from these women who have been rescued and protected and features real pearl jewelry, glass-blown ornaments, and hand-made clothing.
“When you make a purchase here and you know that you are helping another human being who is trying to make it in this world and, you feel even better about buying it,” said Donna Gauslow of Naperville as she browsed the store. “This was wonderful to stumble upon. I have walked by and never came in, but I’m glad I did today.”
Just the third stored of its kind in the U.S., The W.A.R. Chest Boutique hopes to make a safer world for women and children one purchase at a time.
