The spotlight was on women who own local businesses as people had the chance to Shop 4 Change.
The group, Local Girls 4 Global Change (LG4GC) organized a fundraiser bringing Naperville’s women-owned businesses together so people could shop for a good cause.
LG4GC members are Naperville North High School girls ages 14 to 18 who raise funds to support women in developing countries.
Bakeries and jewelry shops were popular attractions. Most vendors were also offering employment opportunities to people looking for work.
The money raised at the event from vendor’s fees and raffles went towards providing microloans for women who want to open businesses in underdeveloped countries.
“If women and girls were given the same opportunity as men we could end global poverty,” said Rachel Prorock, a member of LG4GC.
“We believe in turning oppression into opportunity for women in developing nations,” said Kirsten Cleary, a member of LG4GC.
About 100 people attended the event.
