With the continual cold and even more snow, it may seem like spring is nowhere in sight. Still the City of Naperville is advising residents to take precautions now to prevent sewer backups once the warmer weather hits.
The city is offering approved residents the chance to participate in its Sanitary Sewer Backflow Prevention Device Program, and will reimburse pre-approved homeowners who choose a plumber to install such a device in their household. The devices under this program address sanitary sewer back-ups only and not issues related to stormwater or sump pump failures.
Previously all qualifying residents would be reimbursed 75% of the cost but thanks to $60,000 in additional funding from a Community Development Block Grant, the city will cover the additional 25% for low- to moderate-income residents.
