Dupage County is launching a new initiative to get people more involved in their community, by finding ways to give back.
Serve DuPage 2015 is a year-long outreach campaign that will focus on promoting volunteerism and civic engagement. This initiative is in support of the State of Illinois “2015 Year of The Volunteer.”
“We’re expecting to create awareness, focus on the volunteers that are out there already, give them some recognition, but also, why is it important to them to volunteer?,” said Dr. Darlene Ruscitti.
Each month will feature a different campaign focusing on specific volunteer services such as food insecurity, employment and veterans’ needs. The program plans to take advantage of DuPage County’s already highly active volunteer base.
“There are over several hundred thousand that actually do volunteer each year and I think that we can double that in our first year,” said Ruscitti.
The county has made it easier for folks to share their volunteer stories, photos and opportunities on social media by using #GivingDuPage.
