Cantigny Park includes roughly 300 acres for visitors to tour, but why walk the grounds when you can glide on a Segway?
“They’re so much fun. I mean you’re out here in nature and you’re riding around, it’s just a blast,” said Luke Thornton, President and Owner of Oak Park Segways.
This is the fourth year Cantigny is offering Segway tours throughout the summer, adding a unique type of recreation for new and returning visitors.
“We do not offer anything on wheels, basically, through the parks. So this was a guided way to do it safely, and offer a great new experience for the guests to see the whole park in a shorter amount of time versus walking,” said Magan Ascher, Director of Visitor Services at Cantigny Park.
The park offers several tour options that explore various features of Cantigny, including gardens and trails, and every tour begins with training, regardless of experience level.
“Once you get going, probably about two minutes in, it becomes very intuitive. If I want to go to the left, I just go to the left. If I want to go to the right, I just go to the right,” added Thornton.
“I think it’s definitely gotten us a lot more outreach into the public. A lot of people who didn’t know we were here found out with their love of Segway, and then also people who already come here and say ‘wow this is a really cool new way to see everything’,” said Ascher.
Other summer tours include bird walks, garden and museum tours.
