Sometimes finding a second opinion about a diagnosis can be a daunting task, but one Naperville medical center is hoping to make that process easier.
Edward Hospital recently announced the opening of their Second Opinion Clinic, designed to give patients a more efficient route to getting medical feedback.
The clinic is geared to help patients better understand their diagnosis, allow for a different doctor to review their case, or give someone reassurance about the original treatment choice.
“We’re trying to make it as seamless and smooth for patients as possible,” said Dr. Alex Hantel, Director of Medical Oncology for the Edward Cancer Center. “The way things move nowadays, things move fast. We need to be able to use all of the tools out there; Internet, telephone and we get the records a lot faster than we used to be able to. We are very anxious to try to be able to provide this service.”
Patients wanting to use the service can fill out a form online, and then within a day will be contacted by a nurse to make an appointment and arrange for the transfer of medical records. The clinic is starting with cancer patients, but will add other conditions in the future.
Edward Hospital is one of a few hospitals nation wide to offer this service.
