Secret Santas appear to be paying an early visit to major retailers in hopes of easing shoppers’ budgets. Anonymous donors have paid off layaway balances for strangers at Kmart stores around the country, including the Naperville location.
Managers there say more than 60 customers have received these random acts of kindness. One of those shoppers says she was pleasantly surprised when she found out that a Good Samaritan had foot the bill for her gifts.
“As far as them paying it off, it just helps me out so that I can help somebody else,” said Latisha Diggs. “That’s what Christmas is all about. You gotta give cause when you give, it comes back.”
The layaway donation spree started in Michigan, Kmart’s home state.
