Students at Neuqua Valley High School had Veteran’s Day off, but earlier in the week they hosted a “Salute to our Nation’s Heroes.” The school’s fifth annual Veteran’s Ceremony included speeches and performances by students.
This year Mike Goodale delivered the keynote address. Goodale served in the Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in the battle that inspired the movie Black Hawk Down. He shared reflections from that fight and what he believes a hero is
“(A hero is) somebody who recognizes the danger and does their job anyway to the best of their ability,” said Goodale.
Neuqua students also produced a video about World War II veteran Frank Perconte, who served with the 101st Airborne Division on D-Day, and was portrayed by James Madio in HBO’s Band of Brothers.
The ceremony ended when Assistant Principal David Perry asked students to stand and give today’s heroes the thank you they deserve.
