For the first time, the PGA Tour’s Ryder Cup is being held in Illinois.
And that’s good news for Naperville.
This year’s Ryder Cup takes place at the Medinah Country Club – about 20 miles north of Naperville.
Ryder Cup Travel Services recommends that spectators stay in Naperville hotels, which would account for about 4,000 total room nights.
“[Spectators] have been playing golf courses nearby, here in Naperville and the surrounding areas, and dining and shopping,” said Christine Jeffries, President of the Naperville Development Partnership. “It will be several million dollars of economic impact for our local businesses here.”
Officials estimate that the event could generate some $80 million for DuPage County.
About 45,000 spectators are expected to be in attendance for each day of the Ryder Cup, which pits American and European golf squads against each other in team play.
The event happens every two years.
