Major construction along three miles of Route 59 now has an expected start date.
City officials say the Route 59 Expansion Project is slated to begin Monday, August 19th, weather pending.
The Illinois Department of Transportation will post warning signs a week before on August 12th.
The project includes widening the major road from Aurora Avenue to Ferry Road, adding an extra third lane in each direction, adding sidewalks and traffic signals at major intersections, and implementing a diverging diamond configuration to replace the current I-88 interchange.
The construction has an estimated total cost of roughly $95 million, including $50 million in state funding and a local share of $4.5 million for items such as sidewalks, bike paths, utilities, and streetlights.
