Bill Epp’s term as Chairman of the commission ends this November and Mayor Steve Chirico has asked Geoff Roehll to take his place. Roehll’s first meeting as Chairman of the commission will be December 9th.
And some new elements are on their way for the 2015 Field of Honor at Rotary Hill. The theme for this year’s event is “50 Years of Healing” commemorating the anniversary of the Vietnam War.
So, in addition to the over 2,000 flags on display, the Naperville Park District will install a scale model of the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.
“It’s going to be a great addition to the Healing Fields in the self, but it is the same weekend as the marathon. So we’re going to be getting additional out of town visitors and participants in the marathon that would be willing and able to go to the fields and experience that. It’s going to be quite a weekend in Naperville,” said Chuck Papanos, Park Operations Manager for the Riverwalk.
The display will also include an area designated to the 11 Naperville lives that were lost during the war.
The flags will be on display from November 6th through the 12th.
Naperville News 17’s Rachel Pierson reports.
