As many families hit the road this summer, a recent surge in gas prices is hitting their wallets.
The national average for a gallon of gas is $3.61, but in Illinois you’re paying even more.
“Here in Naperville we are averaging $4.10 per gallon across the city,” said Beth Mosher, Spokesperson for AAA Chicago. That’s about 25 cents in the past week, much higher than the rest of the nation. However, Illinois is always higher than the rest of the nation.”
The surge was caused by a mixture of the unrest in the Middle East, glitches at American refineries, and the high demand during vacation season.
To help save at the pump many gas companies are offering free loyalty cards good for cents off each gallon, or you can download smart phone apps like Gas Buddy that shows you the cheapest gas near you.
