A new trail in Naperville provides a path for residents to walk, bike, and run.
Representatives from the City of Naperville, Park District, and Forest Preserve District of Dupage County held a ribbon cutting for the opening of the West Branch Riverway Trail.
The trail connects Jefferson Avenue to the McDowell Grove Forest Preserve, making it the newest route linking the preserve to an urban area.
The path adds nearly 1 mile to the 23-mile West Branch Regional Trail that spans from Hanover Park to Will County.
“It’s a place that people can get outside and spend time together and also encourages healthy living,” said Kirsten Young, the Naperville Park Board President.
The groundbreaking of the path happened in late September of 2011. It was finished on time and within the budget.
The trail is a step closer to completing Naperville’s 1992 West Branch Riverway Project Agreement, which hopes to create a walkway along the West Branch of the Dupage River throughout the city.
