For the second time in a year, the Naperville Electoral Board met to deal with an objection to a petition.
Naperville resident Paul Sjordal and members of Yes! Elect City Council at Large met before the board, consisting of Mayor A. George Pradel, City Clerk Pam LaFeber and City Councilman Doug Krause, to testify about the group’s petition to place a referendum question on the April ballot.
Sjordal says the referendum question stating “Shall the city of Naperville elect city council at large instead of part of the councilmen at large and part of the councilmen from districts?” is not specific as to whether or not a binding referendum is sought by the petitioner.
He also argues that many of the more than 2,000 signatures are invalid.
The board will have a series of hearings before making a final decision on January 31st, the deadline in order to put a referendum on the ballot. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 23rd at 2 pm to consider legal issues briefed by both parties.
Sjordal’s attorney, Doug Ibendhal appeared before the electoral board last year when a group of residents tried to overturn the installation of the smart grid electric system.
