Hundreds of people came out to North Central College to “hit cancer out of the park” at the ninth annual Relay for Life.
The event gives our community a chance to raise money and awareness, while honoring the lives of families who have been affected by cancer.
Cancer survivors shared an honorary dinner and started the event with a lap around the track.
Participants then broke into 51 teams and spent an entire night walking around the track.
Cancer survivor, George McNamara has attended Relay for Life at NCC for the past three years. “The amount of people that are here for support for all the folks with cancer, gives you a feeling down deep that unless you’ve had cancer and have been a survivor it’s hard to describe,” he said.
There were also a number of events going on throughout the night to help those involved stay awake.
The event raised more than $40,000.
