The site at 111th Street and 248th Avenue will soon be home to a multiple-family residence development, targeted for seniors.
Despite some council members’ concerns over rezoning the land from commercial space to residential, the majority agreed it would put the land to good use.
“I’d like to be cautious on converting commercial property to residential, but I think in this case here, it’s a nice fit and I think you did leverage the amenities in that region very nicely to accommodate the use,” said Mayor Steve Chirico.
Enclave at Ashwood Park Subdivision will house about 60 townhomes: each with two bedrooms and two car garages.
Also discussed at the meeting were possible solutions to the city’s downtown parking problems.
A 2015 parking survey revealed that the occupancy of spaces are on the rise, and driver satisfaction is declining; so the city’s Transportation, Engineering and Development team is exploring more options.
Some of those include implementing a parking app in the future, opening private spaces to the public and creating new parking lots.
While they didn’t decide on which is the best option, most agreed action is needed.
“It takes a long time to figure out how these things are going to happen, and I think if we evaluate from July until December, what the various options will be, it could still be another two years before they get implemented, and I think what we’re trying to do is stay ahead of the curve,” said Kevin Gallaher, Councilman for the City of Naperville.
Council voted 6-2 to endorse the recommendations from the parking study.
