Crews have been hard at work giving the old Holiday Inn Select on Diehl Road a $30 million transformation into a state of the art Marriott.
Now 14 months later, Naperville’s newest hotel is ready for check in.
About a hundred employees, Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce members and residents gathered in the entryway of the newly renovated Chicago Marriott Naperville for a ribbon cutting, welcoming the hotel to the area.
“On behalf of the Chamber and the entire business community, we want to welcome you to town and we wish you many, many years of success,” said John Schmitt, President and CEO of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s been a long time in making but it’s been wonderful to work with the group and we are looking forward to the entrance to the city being the Chicago Marriott hotel,” said George Pradel, Mayor of Naperville.
Following the ribbon cutting, attendees were able to tour the new facility, just a few short hours away from the hotel’s first check in.
Marriott representatives say the hotel is “fabulously first class.” The lobby is decorated in a 1960s theme, when travel was considered a luxury. Once you walk in the door it seamlessly flows from the check in area, to a relaxation space for reading and watching TV, to a day and night bar, and to a restaurant, which serves only local food.
“The construction, the team, the decorations, are magnificent,” said Dan Gustafson, General Manager of the Chicago Marriott Naperville. “It’s very inviting.”
Construction crews completely gutted the building and redid all seven floors. All 378 guest rooms and 46 suites are brand new. There are also 21 meeting rooms and two ballrooms.
“They worked so smoothly with the City of Naperville, every room is re-done and everyone is looking forward to some wonderful, wonderful experiences here,” said Pradel.
The Marriott had 30 rooms booked on opening night and says it’s only going up from there.
