The Naperville Century Walk is raising money for a new statue.
The organization in charge of public art in the downtown has launched a crowdfunding project to raise money for the “Spirit of the American Navy” statue.
The city and the Century Walk have each donated $25,000 for the project and need residents’ help raising the remaining $27,000.
Back in 2003, the city dedicated the “Spirit of the American Doughboy” at Burlington Square Park. Now ten years later, they want to install its counterpart.
The navy statue is one of only eight.
To donate, visit citizinvestor.com. They are hoping to raise the $27,000 in 60 days. If the goal is not met, your credit card will not be charged.
In collaboration with the American Legion, the Judd Kendall VFW, the Park District and the City of Naperville, the Century Walk hopes to dedicate the statue on October 13, the 238th birthday of the American Navy.
