The DuPage County Health Department is urging everyone to get their influenza shots.
The flu season typically runs from October to spring because that’s when strands are most active.
While senior citizens can be more susceptible to the flu, the health department suggests everyone over six months old should get vaccinated.
“Because flu is so common, people don’t ordinarily assume it and associate it with an epidemic but in fact, a large number of hospitalizations and even death occur each year so that’s why the health department encourages everyone to get a flu shot,” said Dave Hass, Public Information Officer.
The vaccine can take up to two weeks to fully dissolve into your system and provide immunity so it’s best to get the shot as soon as possible.
Vaccinations are available at physician offices, pharmacies, grocery stores and quick care clinics throughout the area.
