Proposed DuPage Budget Keeps Property Taxes Flat

The newly proposed DuPage County budget would keep property taxes where they are for the 10th year in a row.

But the budget calls for cuts throughout all departments to make up for a $2.7 million drop in projected revenue from the state.

County Board Chairman Dan Cronin presented the $439.6 million dollar spending plan to county board members at their most recent meeting.

Cronin says he has worked hard to avoid raising taxes since he took office, but the county may not be able to cut anymore after this year.

“Proposing a balanced budget this time is the most excruciatingly painful exercise that I have gone through since I’ve been in this position,” said Cronin. “The state legislature decided to take $2.7 million from the DuPage county government, so I understand that’s what the legislature had to do. That’s the hand of cards that was dealt us, which is fine, but it made it really difficult.”

County board members have until November 30 to approve the new 2018 budget.
