State budget problems ended the prescription assistance program Illinois Cares June 30th, but counties are offering a way to help.
The National Association of Counties, or NACo, has teamed up with Dupage and Will Counties to offer residents prescription discount cards.
The cards save an average of 24% off of certain drugs.
“If you don’t have insurance or you have insurance, but it doesn’t cover prescription drugs or that drug, you are allowed to use the card in your local pharmacy,” said District 5 Dupage County Board Member Jim Healy.
Any county that’s a part of NACo can get the program free of charge.
Cards can be picked up at townships, the county offices, the health department, or it can be printed online at NACoRX.org.
This past month alone Dupage County saved residents $16,000 with the program.
