If you’re a first time gardener you may want to start your season with some tricks of the trade.
We headed over to Lizzie’s Garden in Naperville to get some tips on prepping your plot from Lizzie herself.
First, she says the secret to a bright, green garden starts from the bottom up. Make sure to prepare your plants with a soil that includes peat moss and compost.
Next, if you can’t wait to start planting, there are certain types of vegetables you can start preparing now.
“Early on, you can plant your cold vegetables like your broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, those types of things. On the tomatoes and peppers you have to wait until the soil warms up, otherwise they don’t do well,” said Lizzie Holmberg, Owner of Lizzie’s Garden.
And finally, for those a little nervous about growing their first garden, Lizzie says to take it one step at a time, ask questions and learn from your mistakes.
