Preliminary PARCC Results

Preliminary scores statewide show that only about a third of 3rd to 8th graders met or exceeded expectations on the tests, and the numbers were even worse for high school students.

For the math portion, between 26 and 36 percent of 3rd to 8th graders hit the mark, with 33 to 38 percent reaching standards for English Language Arts and literacy.

And at the high school level, it was 17 percent meeting or exceeding expectations for Math, with 31 percent doing so in the English category.

But as those numbers aren’t complete, reflecting about 75 percent of test-takers, officials at District 204 are reserving judgment for now.

“We’re open to understanding how the state results look and understanding them, but more importantly, we’re really interested in taking a look at our own results when they’re complete and they’ve been verified and we know they’ve been approved,” said Patrick Nolten, Executive Director of Assessment, Research and Evaluation for District 204.
Last year was the first year the PARCC tests were implemented in Illinois, as a method to measure performance levels through Common Core.
