One tradition certainly made a splash with swimmers at Centennial Beach.
Kids and adults braved chilly waters for the second annual Pre-season Plunge. Some donned swimming caps and even wet suits to prepare for the event.
After lifeguards blew the whistle, residents took a dip in the shallow end, some-taking it slowly, others going all in.
“Why did we do it?” Fletcher Oliver said. “I really have no idea. To get a feel for the pool and we got a feel that it’s really, really cold.”
“I thought I would do this because it seemed like something new and fun to do and I thought it was fun. I’m gonna do it again next year,”
said Elizabeth Cablk, another swimmer.
“I thought it was really cold,” said Yasi Peyjam. “I didn’t go into far cause I thought it was really cold.”
“I really loved it. I don’t mind the cold water actually so it wasn’t really that bad,” said Joe Rierdan.
Even the Park District’s Executive Director Ray McGuray took the plunge. Centennial Beach officially opens on May 26th.
