The plan to create a new streetscape in Downtown Naperville is expected to cost about $15 million.
This would cover improvements like installing new benches, replacing brick walkways with pavement for better wear and tear, and other needed enhancements.
While a payment plan has yet to be finalized, officials are exploring the idea of a cost sharing method.
“Based on our research, the initial improvements were funded completely by the property owners, although the city has shared in the maintenance cost in the past years, we’re basically in unchartered waters, we’ve never done this before, so looking at it we think cost sharing is actually the way to go,” said Bill Novack, Director of the Transportation, Engineering and Development group with the City of Naperville.
The proposal will be brought to the City Council sometime in the next month before discussions with property owners.
The improvements are expected to last about 40 years.
