A 46-year-old Hanover Park man working for Naperville company DND International, Inc. has plead “not guilty” after operating a commercial motor vehicle while fatigued causing a fatal crash on I-88 near Eola.
Renato Valasquez is charged with six counts including: violating the motor carrier safety law, operating in an ill or impaired state, and two counts of failing to comply with hours of service requirements, which are class four felonies. He is also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and failure to yield to stationary emergency vehicles.
Valasquez is accused of crashing into a police car with lights flashing and a disabled semi truck, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.
The crash killed 39-year-old toll way worker Vincent Petrella of Wheeling and seriously injured 38-year-old State Trooper Douglas Balder from Oswego.
Valasquez is out on bond, his next court appearance is set for April 14.
