The Naperville Planning and Zoning Commission won’t be supporting a development to the former Country Lakes Golf Course property.
The proposal for the Atwater Subdivision, located south of Diehl Road and west of Route 59, included building 327 new single family home lots, a park site and trails.
Despite the extra amenities, many residents came out to voice their opinions against the development, which they believed would cause additional problems with flooding and traffic to the area.
“My recommendation is this builder should not be able to put one single house up until this property is checked to see if this is a flood plane.”
“I think their traffic study is flawed they left Longwood out of their study I don’t know if it’s erroneous or why it happened but to their omission – traffic is not normal in this property.”
“I don’t think the wording in the traffic report is necessarily indicative of the reality of the intersection.”
Commissioner Williams spoke out for the developer, noting that they weren’t responsible for the existing issues.
“To be balanced and fair, we have to observe this is already a problem, so it’s not that the development is creating it,” said Commissioner, Robert Williams.
His was the lone vote for the project. The rest of the Commission disagreed, siding with the residents and voting down the request.
