The Planning and Zoning Commission has reached a consensus on guidelines concerning medical marijuana cultivation centers and dispensaries.
The commission voted on additions to the zoning code that make medical marijuana facilities a conditional use – requiring any business to appear before the commission before being allowed to open.
Staff also included criteria for the commissioners to consider if a dispensary or cultivation center wants to open like traffic generation and the impact of the facility on the neighborhood.
The primary use of the facility will be for dispensing medical marijuana under the code.
Retail space will be limited to 10 percent of the store, but the commissioners voted to allow drive-thrus at the facilities.
The additions to the code will now go to City Council for approval.
At the same meeting the commission unanimously voted to give a positive recommendation to a new banquet facility on Shuman Boulevard.
Before the plan goes to City Council the petitioner will have to make sure they work out a shared parking agreement with neighbors around the site.
The next Planning and Zoning meeting will be December 4th.
